HEALTHY IMMUNE SYSTEM
The immune system protects the body from bacteria, viruses, fungi and other harmful organisms and if it becomes weakened you can become subject to fatique and illness and can become unable to ward off infections.
The thymus, spleen and lymph nodes are several organs dedicated to immune function. The thymus shrinks with age. Tapping it can help to stimulate it.
The immune system can be weakened by free radicals, poor lifestyle habits and environmental factors.
There are five keys to a healthy immune system especially during cold and flu season.
1. Handwashing. Good handwashing is the number one preventative. Thieves is a wonderful antibacterial, anti-viral, and anti-infectious hand sanitizer that I use. It was used by thieves during the black plague to rob the bodies of the dead and they didn't get sick. It is a combination of eucalyptus, rosemary, clove, lemon, and cinnamon oils.
2. Fluid intake, need to have enough water in the body to flush out the toxins. At least half your body weight in ounces a day.
3. Exercise/sleep. Deep sleep releases immune enhancing substances and you need extra when you are sick.
Moderate stretching and cardio 20-60 minutes a day increases circulation and removes cellular debris.
4. Stress relief/laughter. Stress suppresses adrenaline and the immune system and will make you tired. Meditation, deep breathing, fresh air, yoga, hot baths, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Chamomile tea, a walk are all effective.
5. Diet. And diet is huge. Eating fresh organic fruits and vegetables and fresh made juice are good choices. Staying away from processed and fast food is also good. Increasing your intake of Vitamins A C D E. A in high in orange fruits and vegetables, like sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, squash, etc. C in high in citrus. D is best absorbed from 10 minutes of sunshine a day and is high in oily fish, nuts, avocadoes, and olive oil. E is high in nuts and seeds especially sunflower. These vitamins do not stay in the body and need to be replenished. Selenium produces infection fighting T-cells and is found in tuna, poultry, and brazil nuts. And Zinc is an immune superstar, found in meats, nuts and pumpkin seeds.
Mushrooms, especially shitakes and reishi are high in beta glucans which boosts the body's immune system. Magnesium, works in transmission of nerve impulses and when there is a shortage of it in the body you have muscle spasms and cramps. Most people are lacking in this. Legumes, dark green leafy vegetables(spinach), and nuts are good sources. I personally like magnesium oil which I rub on the bottoms of my feet at night, this is quickly absorbed into the body.
B-12 and all the B vitamins boost immune system activity. Garlic/onions both inhibit growth of microbes. I make a wonderful immune juice from horseradish, garlic, onion, jalapeno, ginger and garlic in apple cider vinegar which is my flu shot. Apple cider vinegar is good also for heartburn and so many things. Ginger is excellent for nausea. Honey and cinnamon are wonderful natural antibiotics. Honey has been found that is over 5,000 years old and still good. Cinnamon is excellent for colds, flu, sore throat, and even to control blood sugar and blood pressure. Always better to get vitamins from food sources than supplements.
Some herbs are known immune boosters. Ginseng, astragulus(especially good added to soups), dandelion, and milk thistle, all can be taken without problems. Also, chlorella and probiotics. Herbs that are best as a tea or infusion are green tea, red clover, cleavers, barberry, nettle, burdock, oatstraw, and dandelion. Infusions are teas that have steeped for hours instead of minutes.
Ok, so you did it all right and still got sick. First eliminate sugar, wheat and dairy, which are known to aggravate symptoms and weaken the immune system.
Collodial Silver is excellent oral, nasal, as a throat spray and eye wash.
These are excellent immune boosters for short term use: echinacea-infection fighter; goldenseal; licorice (not the red or black kind), good for bacterial and respirator;, catnip-for fever use equal parts of catnip and lemon balm; mullein-expectorant; eucalyptus-good for congestion; elderberry-anti-viral, good for flu, sore throat,and cough; clove- infection fighter, colds and flu; slippery elm-sore throat; olive leaf and oregano oil are two of my favorites, both are very potent; Tulsi or holy basil, and hysop are anti-viral and anti-bacterial;
Excellent tea for when you are sick: holy basil, echnicea, catnip, sage, raspberry, lemon balm, honey, cinnamon, and cayenne.
These common herbs most have in their homes: thyme-anti-bacterial, good for colds; sage-sore throat, sinus drainage, increases sweating to eliminate toxins. Like the old Simon & Garfunkle song, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme are all excellent. Rosemary is a immune booster and is anti-bacterial; Parsley is excellent for kidney infections.
Wonderful homeopathic for flu is oscilloccinium and for viral infections monolaurin is my go to choice.
Remember antibiotics don't work on viral infections.
There are also many other homeopathics designed to assist with specific conditions and a wide range of essential oils to vast to name that have amazing benefits.
If I could only choose several to have it would have to be apple cider vinegar, honey and colloidal silver
